All 3 are distinguishable when placed next to each other but generally there comes a choice of either purple, or grey/blue, the latter being notably more desirable. Welsh slate is regular in size and this is how it is bought & sold, and there are many sizes available - still referred to in Imperial measurements (because that is how they were measured when cut), such as 20" x 10" - 24" x 12" - 18" x 9" - 22" x 11" - 20" x 12" There are at least 20 different sizes used throughout the the British Isles, of which the most common 5 or 6 sizes we endeavour to always have in stock. The list of common sizes is: 14 x 7 16 x 8 16 x 9 16 x 10 16 x 12 18 x 9 18 x 10 18 x 12 20 x 10 20 x 12 22 x 11 22 x 12 24 x 12 24 x 14 Not all slates from the UK are Welsh, the other common kinds are Westmoreland slate, and Cornish slate both of which are mostly green.   Foreign slates are more and more common these days and anything from Spanish, French and Belgian all the way through to Chinese or Brazilian slates are now used – of course the vast majority of slate roves are Welsh and this is why it is still the best choice in terms of appearance and preservation of traditional appearances.
